Passionate about life and her family, and a great defender of the French language. Died peacefully, surrounded by her children, on Friday, December 27, 2019 at St. Mary's Hospital in Montreal after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was the beloved wife of the late Souheil Laham for more than 60 years. Proud mother of Nadia Laham (the late Dennis Paul Tourbin) and Beatrice Laham (Xavier Deneufbour­g). Beloved grandmothe­r of Thibault Deneufbour­g. Dear sister of Micheline Nadia Pouyès. Named Chevalier de l'ordre des palmes académique­s, the oldest civilian honorary order in France, Marie Laham dedicated her life to the spread of French culture having held various positions at the Lycée Claudel in Ottawa, warmly welcoming students from across Canada and around the world for more than two decades. Known for her dynamism, lively spirit and immense generosity, Marie Laham was a devoted mother and grandmothe­r, and will remain a model of love and courage for her children and grandson. The family would like to sincerely thank the Home Care team at CLSC Côte-des-Neiges and the staff on the 8th floor of St. Mary's Hospital for their compassion­ate care. Family and friends are invited to attend her funeral at Notre Dame Cathedral Basilica, 385 Sussex Drive, Ottawa, Friday January 10, 2020, at 1:30pm. The family will receive condolence­s beginning at 1:00 p.m. The celebratio­n will be followed by a reception.
