Mrs. Tiggy Winkle’s to close Westboro location
After almost two decades of providing youngsters with toys, puzzles, books, crafts, stuffed animals and any number of colourful amusements, the Westboro location of Mrs. Tiggy Winkle’s, including its Lost Marbles adjunct, is closing.
The popular toy store made the announcement on its Facebook page Friday morning. “Thank you for your support,” it read. “As a local business, we appreciated the opportunity to serve you, your family, your children & sometimes … even your pets.
“We hope you have the chance to stop in and say goodbye.”
The announcement sparked dozens of responses from baleful customers. “Shopping last minute for a birthday party gift will never be the same,” said one.
“God I hate the direction that this neighbourhood is headed,” wrote another. “You were part of the vibrant fabric that attracted us here more than a decade ago. It will be even more threadbare now.”
The store, at 313 Richmond Rd., will close Feb. 29, leaving just the original Glebe location, the first in a chain that once saw stores in the Rideau Centre, Bayshore and Orléans shopping centres. The Glebe store opened in 1977.
No reason was given for the pending closure.
