ISAIAS TEARS PATH TOWARD NORTHEAST
Tropical Storm Isaias raced up the East Coast of the United States on Tuesday, generating tornadoes and knocking out power, and a twister in North Carolina killed at least one person when it obliterated a mobile home park.
The storm threatened flash flooding in urban areas such as Philadelphia and could generate tornadoes throughout the Northeast.
The centre of the storm moved across Maryland and was about 70 miles (110 km) southwest of Philadelphia, the National Hurricane Center said.
Packing maximum sustained winds of 70 miles per hour (110 km/h), Isaias was moving north-northwest at 35 mph (56 km/h).
