Business-class perks flying off shelves
If you’ve ever lusted after the perks of business-class while squirming for space in economy, Australia’s national airline is offering a comfy compromise — luxury pyjamas. Qantas is selling its status-symbol amenity kits to travel-starved Aussies who are being denied international flights amid the coronavirus pandemic. With flights restricted, the airline has decided to sell off its high-end perks to help clear a surplus. The packages, costing $25, include the PJs, as well as a 200-gram pack of smoked almonds, chocolate biscuits and ginger tea bags. As an added feature, Qantas will ship the packages anonymously to anyone “who is doing it tough” during the lockdown. Phil Capps, the airline’s executive manager of product and service, said: “Qantas PJs are always popular, and with people spending a lot more time at home and wishing they were travelling somewhere, we think receiving a surprise pair in the mail will be very well received.” The goody bags have proved popular, with more than 5,000 sold on the first day of sales and another 4,500 put together to meet demand. Capps said some of the excess stock has also been donated to charity.
