Scooby-Doo co-creator dies

Joe Ruby, who co-created Scooby-Doo, has died at the age of 87. The writer and animator died from natural causes in Westlake Village, Calif., on Wednesday. “He never stopped writing and creating, even as he aged,” grandson, Benjamin Ruby, told Variety. Joe and his partner, Ken Spears, were the brains behind the animated children’s series Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?, which premièred in 1969. The original show aired until 1976, and the franchise spawned a string of spinoffs and movies.
