A 31-year-old Chelsea man surrendered to MRC des Collines-de-l'Outaouais police on Wednesday in connection with an alleged incident of road rage in late February.

Police had released details of the Feb. 27 incident on Tuesday.

The alleged suspect presented himself to the police station late Wednesday morning and was identified and arrested on charges of assault causing bodily harm and mischief causing property damage, police said in an online post.

“At the time of reporting to the police station, he had a penalized driver's licence, so his vehicle was seized for 30 days and a statement of offence will be issued,” police added.

As for the criminal charges, the police media release added, the file was to be submitted to Quebec's Directeur des poursuites criminelles et pénales.

The man has been released from custody on conditions, police said.

MRC des Collines-de-l'Outaouais police said the incident of alleged road rage began shortly before 9 p.m. on Feb. 27 at the corner of Old Chelsea and Scott Road, where the suspect allegedly started following very closely behind a car driven by an 18-year-old woman, honking his horn and turning on his high-beam headlights.

According to police, the victim reached a dead-end and was forced to turn around, at which point the suspect blocked her path and, after exiting his own vehicle, smashed her side window while yelling at her.

She and her passenger were able to exit their vehicle and find refuge to contact police.

The suspect was believed to have been driving an SUV with a female passenger and two children in the back seat, police said.
