Atlético Ottawa has signed 22-year-old Canadian winger Zach Verhoven.

Verhoven played the last two seasons at Pacific FC, making 33 appearances, with three goals and four assists.

A product of the Surrey United Soccer Club and the Whitecaps Residency Program, Verhoven played for the UBC Thunderbirds, scoring 12 goals and adding 22 assists. He was selected in the second round of the CPL U Sports draft in 2019.

“One of our goals from the outset of this club and the Canadian Premier League is to develop young Canadian talent. Bringing Zach on board allows us to continue working toward this goal,” said Atlético Ottawa CEO Fernando Lopez. “He is a player with flair and he can create scoring opportunities.”

“We are building something special here and I am more motivated than ever to work hard and pay back the club for their belief in me,” said Verhoven. “This season cannot get here fast enough. We'll be ready.”

Verhoven is the 14th player announced by Atlético Ottawa for the 2021 CPL season, joining Canadians Jordan Webb, Dylon Powley, Chris Mannella, Keesean Ferdinand, Milovan Kapor, Antoine Coupland, Ben McKendry, Brandon John and Malcolm Shaw, and international players Viti Martinez, Bernardinho, Tevin Shaw and Vashon Neufville.
