Ottawa Public Health reported 61 new cases of COVID-19 cases on Sunday, bringing the number of active cases in the city to 394.

The seven-day average of new daily COVID-19 cases in Ottawa stood at 31.2.

By comparison, at the peak of the pandemic's third wave last spring, the seven-day average of new daily COVID-19 cases in Ottawa hit 322 (on April 18).

There have been 28,828 cases in Ottawa since the start of the pandemic.

There were no new deaths from COVID-19 reported Sunday, leaving the death toll for the city at 594. Seven people were in hospital with the virus and one patient was in intensive care, one fewer than on Saturday.

Ontario reported 784 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday and attributed six more deaths to the disease.

Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott said in a tweet that 602 of the latest infections were in people not fully vaccinated or whose immunization status was unknown.

The tally brought the number of laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ontario since the pandemic began to 574,619, with 9,611 total deaths.

There were 289 people in Ontario hospitals with COVID-19 on Sunday, Elliott tweeted, including 184 people in intensive care, though the health minister noted that not all Ontario hospitals report hospitalizations on the weekend.

In regions near Ottawa, there were six new cases reported in Kingston, Frontenac and Lennox & Addington, three in Leeds, Grenville and Lanark, 16 in the Eastern Ontario Health Unit and seven in Renfrew County.

Meanwhile, 84.3 per cent of eligible Ontarians (anyone over age 12) have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 78 per cent have received two doses.

The province administered 40,220 doses of vaccine Saturday, bringing the vaccination total to 21,167,527.

Quebec reported 757 new cases on Sunday, 510 of whom were inadequately vaccinated, and no new deaths.

Though Quebec's hospitalization numbers fell on Sunday, on Saturday, Quebec Health Minister Christian Dubé signalled his concern about a recent overall increase in hospitalizations. Quebec reported 995 new COVID-19 cases Saturday.
