Jocelyn Peterman and Brett Gallant won twice at the world mixed doubles curling championship in Geneva on Tuesday.

The Canadians improved their record to 5-1 with a pair of blowouts. First Peterman and Gallant beat Hungary (Ildiko Szekeres and Gyorgy Nagy) 10-1 and then they topped the Czech Republic (Julie Zelingrova and Vit Chabikovsky) 10-4.

“We're gonna take a little time off now,” Gallant said.

“We have a reservation for dinner after this game and it will be nice to get some food and enjoy a bit of Geneva. We've really enjoyed it so far. We'll probably get out and do a little sightseeing in the morning.”

Canada's next game is against England at 8 a.m. ET on Wednesday.

Canada sits alone in second place in the round robin standings, a game back of 6-0 Scotland (Eve Muirhead and Bobby Lammie).

Scotland is the only team to beat Canada so far and that win could go a long way in determining which team gets first place in the Group B standings.

The team that finishes first gets a bye directly to the semifinal, while the second- and third-place teams in each group will have to play qualifying games.

Though the Hungarians entered the day with a 3-1 record, the same as Canada, they were no match for Peterman and Gallant, who built up a 6-0 lead through three ends, and led 9-1 after five.

Hungary conceded after Canada stole one in the sixth.

Peterman curled 96 per cent in the game, Gallant 86 per cent, while the Hungarians were at just 65 and 50 per cent.

Against the Czechs, Canada again had a 6-0 lead through three ends, gave up three in the fourth and salted it away with another three-spot in the seventh. This time Peterman curled 82 per cent and Gallant 83.

“Our performance today was pretty fair,” said Gallant, who curls out of St. John's, N.L.

“We set up a lot of good angles, especially early on, in both of our games. That helped us get out to a little bit of a lead. When you've got a lead in this game it's always to your benefit. Jocelyn set it up really well all day and if we can continue to do that, I think we're gonna be in a good spot.”
