Dedicated and caring staff make all the difference at sparkling new Stonemont on the Park
Ottawa’s newest 55-plus community is now welcoming residents
“It feels like family already. There’s such a big connection between everybody.”
That’s the word from Dominic Lemire, the front desk manager at Ottawa’s newest 55-plus residential community.
Stonemont on the Park has been welcoming residents since last month, he says. “I believe our residents will enjoy everything we have to offer here in all our services and amenities. We have a lot of activities and great coordinators for outings and other activities.”
To date, he adds, one of the biggest hits among the activities is the golf simulator. Another popular amenity is the indoor pickleball court. Also on site is a swimming pool, a home theatre, a fitness room, a chapel and numerous lounges for social connections.
“The barista machine is also very popular, and the open spaces and large gathering areas really add to the welcoming environment,” says Lemire.
Other activities on offer include aquacise, fitness classes, various clubs and regular entertainment. Indoor and outdoor parking are provided as preferred and, for those who no longer wish to drive themselves, transportation is offered for appointments, shopping and sightseeing trips.
The approach to food service is one of the key features at Stonemont, notes food service manager Melanie Desgroseilliers.
“We provide an à la carte menu with five selections cooked on the spot to ensure that the food is fresh and hot. We are operating exactly like a restaurant for our residents. So far, the comments and reviews have been really positive. And as we grow together, I’m confident that it will continue to work well.”
Drinks are available 24/7 for all members of the Stonemont community, whether they are living in the independent lifestyle apartments or in the all-inclusive sections.
Caring for the health and welfare of residents also takes a holistic approach, says director of care Sophie Viau. As well as having a medical professional on site at all times, residents have access to a variety of other health-related services without leaving Stonemont.
She points out that services such as optometry, dentistry, hearing assessment and care, and foot care are brought into the residence.
“We are taking care of every aspect of our residents’ health needs,” says Sophie. “As we age, it’s very important to ensure that all our faculties are working as well as possible. Making it convenient to have everything checked helps to prolong quality of life.”
On top of catering to a wide variety of needs and preferences, the ambience is “like living in a resort” say staff and residents.
In addition to quality accommodation in several different designs, there is plenty to choose from among the many amenities, combined with assorted levels of support and service in accordance with personal needs.
For active individuals who enjoy their independence and are primarily looking for opportunities to socialize, the 130 lifestyle apartments in the community have full kitchens, walkin showers, high ceilings, balconies, underground parking and concierge service. Apartments range from bachelors to one-, twoand three-bedrooms in a variety of layouts.
For residents who require more services, Stonemont offers meal plans, housekeeping and additional help through all-inclusive/supportive plans in 197 apartments on the same property. A further level of support is offered through assisted living. The added help offered with personal care provides comfort and peace of mind for both residents and their loved ones, notes co-owner Eric Chartrand, adding that one of the most attractive features is that assistance with daily living can be added as required.
“We try to accommodate everyone’s needs at every stage of their lives,” he says. “We understand that people are trying to combine lifestyle and need. We know, for instance, that in a couple, one might need a little more help than the other. We are always ready to give the extra help and to contribute to a carefree lifestyle for both of them.”
