Haute dogs beside the falls, exploring Adams Sausages, and notable food happenings

After opening Tavern on the Hill in Major’s Hill Park last spring, Andre Schad and Chantal Biro-Schad expanded the haute hot dog concept to another sublime spot to take advantage of Ottawa river views. With the Rideau Falls cascading close by and the Gatineau Hills off in the distance, Tavern on the Falls offers a huge wooden deck with planters, ample seating, fire pits, string lights, giant red umbrellas, and cozy fleece blankets for chilly evenings. And hot dogs. “Our relishes, mustards, pickles, and sauces are now made in-house,” says Andre, “and we’ve chosen a really juicy chicken-beef blend hot dog from Lesters in Quebec in a blind taste test.” They’ve also teamed up with Maverick’s for doughnuts and with Bridgehead, which will serve their full menu. And the view? “It will be stunning in the fall,” he adds.
