MARYSE LORANGER

Born in Montreal, Maryse also lived in Toronto and Quebec City as a young child. Her teenage years were spent back in Montreal and, after completing a PHD in statistics in Berkeley, Calif., she lived and worked in various places including College Station, Texas and Paris, France, finally settling in the Netherland­s with her husband and two children. Through all her travels, Maryse’s Montreal roots have never left her and she visits her hometown as often as possible. She documents one of those visits in this issue’s photo essay, Industrial Revelation on page 8.

JENNA DAVIS

Born and raised in Oakville, Ont., Jenna spent much of her time exploring the great outdoors of Canada quite extensivel­y. In 2012 her life took a turn which sent her venturing through more than 45 different countries exploring culture, history and community across the world. Upon graduating from Brock University, Jenna packed her bags and started a travel blog, sharing tips and tricks on how travellers can travel more sustainabl­y. Jenna keeps on creating new memories and sharing helpful informatio­n, as you’ll see in this issue’s Canadians Abroad on page 52.

MAC HORSBURGH

The seminal event in Mac’s life occurred in 1952 when his father, World War II veteran John Horsburgh, was killed in a plane crash. It eventually set Mac on a 40-year career path helping others deal with adverse life circumstan­ces. With a wife and two young adult children, Mac has a strong belief in the importance of marriage and fatherhood. He has a special place in his heart for the few remaining Second World War veterans, believing we must remember what they sacrificed and accomplish­ed. Read his moving story about a photo featuring his dad and two other young soldiers in Making a Connection on page 58.

BARBARA LEROY

Born on P.E.I. into a large immediate and extended family, Barbara continued to move west over the years before finally settling with her husband David and their three daughters in the most western and most southern corner of mainland Canada, Tsawwassen, B.C. Barbara feels fortunate to have seen a fair portion of this beautiful area but says none of her travels have been as remote, quiet or compelling as canoeing the Northern Barrens in the Arctic —read the whole story in this issue’s Our Travels feature on page 20. Barbara, who turned 66 recently, and her husband David’s next adventure will see them packing their recumbent bikes to cycle from Basel, Switzerlan­d to Amsterdam.
