Editor’s Letter
By the time this issue lands in your mailbox or at your local magazine vendor in mid-july, many among us will hopefully be enjoying the simple pleasures of summertime, once again able to spend time with our extended circle of family and friends, as well as others outside of our immediate bubble. Our encounters this summer are sure to boost our spirits, allowing us to enjoy the warmth of companionship and reap the benefits of sharing time together.
One of the iconic joys of a Canadian summer is a vacation on the road. To whet your appetite for your next one, turn to the photo essay on page 8, “An Epic Roadtrip,” by Randy Nickerson of Courtice, Ont., who recounts his eye-opening, jaw-dropping tour of Newfoundland’s rugged west coast and his encounters with the welcoming locals along the way. While you’re still in armchair travelling mode, you’ll also get a kick out of “Sisters Trip” on page 21 by Debbie Wright of Niagara Falls, Ont., who takes us along for a fun ride through P.E.I. and New Brunswick.
With summer about to turn the corner into fall, now is actually the perfect time to get outdoors with camera in hand and snap away to your heart’s content. As a quick glance at this issue’s cover shot, submitted by Brandon Born of Abbottsford, B.C., so poignantly illustrates, tremendous summertime photos are being taken and sent our way from across the country—by talented shutterbugs and enthusiastic newbies alike. Check out a truly fabulous selection in our “Fresh Air” photo spread beginning on page 44 and, while you’re at it, have a read of Brandon’s heart-warming description of the circumstances that resulted in him capturing that lovely cover photo in the first place (page 49).
Most importantly, thanks in advance for keeping all those pics and tales coming!
