The Broad­view Ho­tel is the sole Cana­dian honoree amongst 58 in­ter­na­tional prop­er­ties her­alded as the best new ho­tels around the world in TLM’s 2018 Hit List. The east-end’s highly ac­claimed Broad­view Ho­tel has been serv­ing lo­cals and trav­el­ers a dar­ing ex­pe­ri­ence from their rooftop pa­tio for less than a year, so how were they able to cre­ate so much buzz in so little time?

Well, to start with, The Rooftop of­fers amaz­ing 360-de­gree un­in­ter­rupted views of the Toronto sky­line which you can en­joy in one of two ways: through a tra­di­tional out­door rooftop pa­tio ex­pe­ri­ence or in­doors through a re­mark­ably de­signed glass fa­cade that’s truly stun­ning. Whether you choose in­doors or out, the re­sult is a space that feels light, airy and fresh – ex­actly what the doc­tor pre­scribed after a long win­ter.

One of the best as­pects of The Rooftop’s space is that you get an amaz­ing view whether you’re sit­ting out­side on the pa­tio, in­side at the bar, or in­side at the din­ing area. With a cav­al­cade of nat­u­ral light through­out the day, and soft but stun­ning lights strate­gi­cally sit­u­ated to cre­ate the per­fect at­mos­phere in the even­ing, it’s easy to find your own in­ti­mate space on The Rooftop to catch up with old friends or ig­nite new flames.

Ev­i­dent through­out their de­sign is the fo­cus on sus­tain­abil­ity; a unique com­bi­na­tion of sharp lines and glass views are soft­ened with the care­ful place­ment of plants and fo­liage. In fact, sus­tain­abil­ity is rooted in the de­sign and the menu.

The Rooftop fea­tures pro­duce sourced lo­cally in South­ern On­tario and house made in­gre­di­ents. The em­pha­sis is on shared plates and drinks like mouth-wa­ter­ing Cac­cio e Pepe Arancini with pump­kin puree, Beef Short Ribs with a kalbi mari­nade and Fried Chicken, a sum­mer de­light that’s served with a sweet tamarind sauce. Th­ese af­ford­able sharables are the per­fect pa­tio fare and be­cause they range from nine to four­teen dol­lars, they’re a great com­pli­ment to your pre­ferred cock­tail.

Speak­ing of cock­tails, this pa­tio sea­son will fea­ture unique mixes like Becky with the Good Hair and the Cana­dian Tuxedo, cu­rated by bar man­ager Jami­son Cass. En­joy­ing one of th­ese de­lec­ta­ble cock­tails on one of the city’s hippest pa­tios is what sum­mer in Toronto is all about, but the views and drinks aren’t the only thing that have peo­ple talk­ing.

With in-house pas­try chef Sarah Bat­tye at the helm, de­light­ful desserts like warm sticky buns with car­da­mon crème anglaise and toasted pecans make for that per­fect sum­mer in­dul­gence. Or, sat­isfy your cho­co­late crav­ing with a spec­tac­u­lar cho­co­late fudge and peanut but­ter brownie.
