Born and raised in Ottawa, Ont., Matt Surch earned his B.A. in philosophy and M.A. in communications studies at McGill University. A father of two, he’s an avid car-free cyclist, blogger, contributor, cycling club president, event organizer, test-rider and public servant who writes about cycling culture and technology. Surch has nearly 30 years of experience riding and racing bicycles across many disciplines, including downhill, cross-country, road, gravel and cyclocross. His proudest cycling accomplishments include two overall podiums at Ontario’s renowned Paris-to-Ancaster Spring Classic. Now primarily focused on cyclocross, he still loves cycling up and down mountains at a moderate pace, but prefers riding fast over gnarly terrain on drop-bar bikes in a way best described as #dropbarbraap.
