Some beefs and bouquets

- Doug Pichette Penticton

Dear Editor: Sometimes we have to vent our feelings, whether anyone agrees with us or not. This is my beef: Unfortunately I don’t think anything can be done to make the “expansion joints” in concrete smoother. Being in a wheelchair I find it very rough, even in the new construction on Main Street.

Every time I cross over one of these “expansion joints” it travels from the wheels right to my neck. It would be nice if they were smoother. More beef. To the cyclists and skateboarders who were so inconsiderate by using the narrow space we had during this short period. I think this shows a lack of consideration for the pedestrians. I remember especially the guy on an electric bike riding in the narrowest of spaces. He rode south and then returned north even after being asked not to use the sidewalk. A pox upon all of you. Bouquets: To the workers in the 200 block. I go down there most days and always try to say “hello” to them. They have all been very polite and I am sure aware of the public relations challenges.

In my opinion you guys have done a great job. The results are above what I expected. You all worked hard and your labour shows how much you care for what you do. Be proud of the job you have done.

To the merchants, thanks for your patience and understanding during this construction.

Soon you will be able to put your signs and tables back out on the sidewalk.

To those who have not seen the area during construction I think you will be pleasantly surprised by the job the crew did.

Thank you for reading this. Beef and bouquets welcome.
