Campaign raised more than $42,000

-

The Penticton Herald’s ninth annual Be An Angel campaign raised $42,720.

The 30-day campaign, where all proceeds are donated to Feed the Valley, concluded Friday afternoon.

Our ultimate goal of $48,000 fell short, but we exceeded last year’s total of $41,594. The all-time record of $47,934 was set in 2014.

The Herald donates 100 per cent of proceeds to Feed the Valley, which benefits food banks and educational programs in Penticton and the South Okanagan. All the money stays within our community.

“Herald readers are fantastic. Thank you to everybody who contributed, many for the ninth consecutive year,” Herald editor James Miller said, Sunday.

“The money raised helps needy families enjoy the holiday season but it also extends throughout the year. We also appreciate the incredible efforts of Shannon, Debbie and Linda in our front office as many of our donations are made in person.”

A daily front page story appeared weekdays in The Herald in December educating the public on where the funds go. We also published a list of donors throughout the campaign, many which were anonymous, including a $300 contribution from one of our newspaper carriers.

An advertisement will appear next week in The Herald thanking each of our donors.
