Crosby turns 30

People reach out to touch the Stanley Cup carried by Pittsburgh Penguins’ captain Sidney Crosby at a parade and gathering on Monday in Rimouski Que. Crosby, who played his junior career with the Oceanic, came with the Cup on his 30th birthday.

Darryl Pace scored twice as Summerland rolled visiting Beasley FC 5-0 in Capri Okanagan Oldtimers’ Soccer League 55-and-over division play Thursday at Dale Meadows Park.

Ray Evans, James Fofonoff and Murray McMichael also scored as Summerland (10-6-0) remained in third place. Tom McGill posted the shutout.

Steve Frost notched two goals as first-place North Country blanked Penticton TC Auto 4-0 at King’s Park.

Randy Bartnick and Jim Kruiper also connected for North Country (13-1-1) who lead second-place Westside by six points.

Local rivals Penticton and Summerland will play a home-and-home series to finish the regular season with games this Thursday at 7 p.m. at Dale Meadows and Aug. 17 at King’s Park.

GOLF

Doug Steinke carded a 68 to top the first flight at the Summerland Golf and Country Club senior men’s day “all net scores” competitio­n on Thursday. Rick Gotobed finished second by countback at 71. In the second flight, it was Frank Davie at 68 and Sandy McDowell at 69.

George Carswell topped the third flight and Jim Wood was second at 70.

Wood, McDowell, Steve Clement, Kelly Dunn and Jim Haddrell shared the deuce pot.

Barb Laisi prevailed at the Twin Lakes Golf Resort ladies’ day “best 9 holes” outing on Wednesday.

Second place went to Darlene Gordon with Diane Duncan, Sylvie Kruger and Barbie Lacey finishing tied for third, and Pat Sutherland coming in sixth.
