Is your boat safe? Are you sure?

West Kelowna RCMP volunteers will be conducting voluntary boat safety checks at the Gellatly Bay public boat launch today.

After the inspection, boat operators will receive a document they can present if they are stopped by the RCMP patrol boat.

“This is a prevention and education measure that not only assists the RCMP officers on the waters of Okanagan Lake, but enhances public safety by providing those boat operators the opportunity to correct any deficiencies they might have prior to launching into the water,” said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey.

Volunteers will also be checking boats and trailers for any potential signs of invasive quagga and zebra mussels.

Voluntary boat safety checks will be conducted from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
