Online survey looking for ways to increase recycling

-

An online survey has been launched as the next phase in an effort to increase the rate of recycling at local business and multi-family dwellings.

The campaign is being led by Kelownabased GreenStep, a company hired on a $75,000 contract by the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen, which is trying to reduce the amount of waste going into the landfills it manages. The online survey follows workshops held this summer with local business owners.

“We have heard some interesting feedback from businesses about why they aren’t recycling more. Issues they are facing include cost, space and storage issues, lack of service, inconvenience and lack of education,” GreenStep project manager Andrea Mackintosh said in a press release.

“They also have some creative ideas on how to overcome these barriers, and we want to hear from businesses all across the RDOS.”

Possible methods to increase recycling rates include new bylaws and programs.

The online survey, for business owners and those in multi-family dwellings, takes 10 minutes and is available at www.recyclesurvey.ca. One lucky respondent will be picked to win a $100 gift card from the local business of his or her choice.

Free waste audits are also available by calling 250-212-5523 or emailing andrea@greenstep.ca.
