Coyotes down Steam again

The Osoyoos Coyotes shrugged off a heartbreaking loss to continue their dominance in the Battle of the South Okanagan.

Osoyoos gave up two goals in the last minute to lose 4-3 to the 100 Mile House Wranglers on Friday before coming home to beat the Summerland Steam 3-1 for the second time this season on Saturday. Coyotes 3 Steam 1: Hunter Johnson scored twice — including the game-winner that broke a 1-1 tie with 8:28 to play — as Osoyoos beat first-place Summerland at the Sun Bowl Arena. Kaleb Comishin of the Coyotes and Riley Smoler of the Steam exchanged goals in the first period.

Matt Huber made 38 saves for the Steam and Daniel Paul stopped 25 for the Coyotes.

FRIDAY — 100 Mile House 4 Coyotes 3: In a finish that conjured up memories of the Coyotes playoff series collapse against Chase in the conference final last season, Darian Long tied the game with 49 seconds left and Justin Bond’s second of the game just six seconds later won it for the Wranglers.

Garrett Hilton also scored for the home team, while Seth Kriese, Carter Robinson and Cameron Welch connected for the Coyotes, who led 2-0 after 40 minutes.

Jakob Severson managed just 16 stops to get the win, while Liam Aitken made 21 saves for Osoyoos.

INDOOR SOCCER

The Bad Tattoo Brewery Masters (45-andover) Indoor Soccer League is looking to add a few more players to round out the teams for the 2017-18 season.

Anyone interested is invited to come out to the Adidas Sportsplex at King’s Park for drop-in scrimmage games the next two Sundays from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

Participants are asked to bring a white and a dark shirt. There is a $10 drop-in fee for each session.

The four-team league runs on Sunday mornings (15 games) starting Nov. 4 until the end of February, with two playoff rounds the first two weeks of March. There are weekly draw prizes courtesy of league sponsors and a season-ending awards social.

The cost to play this season is once again $180 per player.

REC HOCKEY

Patrick Martin and Matt Fraser bagged two goals apiece as the Hitmen outlasted the Broncos 7-6 in Penticton Men’s Recreational Hockey League action.

Steam 2 North Okanagan 1 (OT): Blake Holowaty scored with 2:17 left in the second overtime period as Summerland shaded the visiting Knights.

Scott Robinson tied the game for the Steam 2:17 into the third period.

Brady Marzocco scored for the Knights in the first period.

Huber made 18 saves for the win and Zach Willms turned aside 38 to help the Knights salvage a point.

Kamloops 7 Chiefs 4: Erik Evans netted a hat trick and the Storm scored four straight secondperiod goals to beat visiting Kelowna.

Yewta Plamondon, Kaine Comin, Hayden Hirsch and River Ross also scored as the Storm got just their second win in 12 outings.

Devin Sutton, with two, Kaden Stewart and Jarin Sutton connected for the Chiefs. Shots on goal were 52-52.

The Steam continue to lead the Okanagan Division with a 9-3-0 record, Princeton Posse are just a point back at 7-3-3, Osoyoos is 6-4-1, Kelowna 4-5-1 and North Okanagan 2-5-3.

UPCOMING: North Okanagan goes right back to Summerland for a game tonight at 7:30 p.m.

On Friday, Revelstoke visits Kelowna at 7 p.m., then on Saturday it’s Sicamous at Kelowna at 7 p.m. and Princeton at Osoyoos in a key game at 7:35 p.m. Summerland visits Princeton in a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday.

Michael Penny, Greg Alexander and Chris Arlidge also connected for the winners.

Jared Collen, with three, Stuart Nisbet, Matt Krause and Taylor Cote clicked for the Broncos.

Collen, Jordan Moss and Eric Cerutti each scored twice as the Broncos skated to a 6-6 tie with the Game Time Sports Wolverines.

Dylan Burton, with two, Cody Baker, Olli Dickson, Dominic Aceto and Sam Nigg scored for the Wolverines.

The Broncos continue their busy schedule as they take on the EcoDry Ice Dogs on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. at the OHS rink. Game Time plays the Hitmen on Thursday at 9 p.m. at Memorial Arena.

BOWLING

Jason Gerlat got it done in Thursday Night Men’s 10-pin bowling league play at the Roll N Stones Fun Centre.

Gerlat logged the high single of 213 and the high triple of 586, while Bob Biro retained the high average of 188.

On the team side, El Rancho notched the high single of 924 and Investors Group had the high triple of 2,626.

The Kelowna Rockets look to get back in the win column tonight in Kennewick, Wash., against the Tri-City Americans.
