Looking good, 50 years later, Pen-Hi Class of 1967 reunites

-

The class of 1967 celebrated its 50-year reunion at the Penticton Lakeside Resort. Festivities began on a Friday evening with a wine-and-cheese reception and a short rock-and-roll dance session with Crosstown Bus.

Three members of the band — Brian Anderson, Jeff Boyne and Rick Gannon — were 1967 classmates who had a band, The Mark IV, during high school.

On the Saturday morning, the class hosted a coffee party at the hotel and invited former teachers to join them. Teachers attending included Miss Janet Brouwer, Miss Gray (Irene Ray), and Mrs. Bobbie Morley, all from O’Connell Elementary School. Also attending was Mr. Bill Bobbitt, one of their teachers at Penticton Secondary School.

Other guests included Verla McClynch (Andrews) and Dorothy van Steinberg, secretaries in the school office. Delores (Causier) Troyer of Victoria, a former figure skating coach with Glengarry Figure Skating Club, also attended and enjoyed catching up with former skating club members.

A group photo was taken at the Gyro Park bandshell on Saturday afternoon by professional Steve Tomlinson and the grads shared a few memories of summer dances and Penticton Peach Festival events in the park they enjoyed during their teenage years.

The dinner buffet and dance took place Saturday night at the Lakeside with Bruce Johnson serving as master of ceremonies. Crosstown Bus played a couple of sets, filling the dance floor.

There was a great response to the reunion as almost half of the class of 220 graduates attended the weekend celebration.

This was the fourth reunion of the Class of 1967 as they also hosted 25th, 35th and 40th anniversary reunions.

Many old friendships were renewed and new friendship established.

Linn (Hendry) Rothstein and Peggy (Palmer) Kilcawley attended from England and Terry Wood and his wife from Albany, Oregon.
