Local rinks rock at bush ‘spiel in Summerland
Twenty-nine teams rocked the house at the Summerland Curling Club for the annual Mixed Bush Bonspiel on the weekend.
The four-day competition featured 14 teams from Summerland, seven from Penticton, four from Kelowna, two from Blind Bay and one each from Winfield, Salmon Arm and Kamloops.
Thanks is extended to head organizers Jodie Brennan and Graham Lyle and their many volunteers, John Egyed for getting the great prizes, Copper Mug for a fine dinner on Saturday night, the bar staff, Gord White and Dean Jones for the terrific ice, and the many local sponsors who contributed to the event.
A event: The winners were the Summerland rink of skip Dale Abrey (threw 2nd rocks), 3rd Cheryl Jaeger, 2nd Art Lappalainen (threw skip rocks) and lead Joy Lappalainen.
Runner-up was the Summerland team of skip Stan Green, 3rd Patti McGillivray, 2nd Logan McGillivray and lead Megan McGillivray.
B event: The winners were the Summerland team of skip Jared St. John, 3rd Jodie Brennan, 2nd Graham Lyle and lead Melissa St. John.
Runner-up was the Summerland team of skip Gary Raymond, 3rd Betty Raymond, 2nd Larry Harder and lead Kathryn McLaughlin.
C event: Winners were the Penticton team of skip Matt Tolley, 3rd Jenna Denton, 2nd Jamie Denton and lead Erin Neilson.
Runner-up was the Summerland team of skip John Egyed, 3rd Cindy Curtain, 2nd Ken Rae and lead Kathy Larkin.
D event: Winners were the Penticton team of skip Blaine Carver, 3rd Shannon Carver, 2nd Greg Miller and lead Laura Miller. TIP OF THE WEEK: A delivered stone cannot be touched by any item as it is going down the sheet of ice. This is called a “burnt stone” and must be removed from play. Any rocks moved by a burnt stone should be replaced to their original position.
