Mayoral challenge in West Kelowna
Former West Kelowna councillor Gord Milsom is running for mayor in this fall’s civic election.
Milsom, who was a councillor from 2007 to 2014, said he is running for mayor because he wants to do what he can to move West Kelowna forward.
“I want to connect with our residents and the businesses of West Kelowna to ensure their service expectations are being met and to ensure they are receiving good value for their property taxes, and to encourage community involvement,” he said.
Milsom said as mayor he would pursue economic development opportunities for West Kelowna by building relationships with the development and real estate industry.
“I plan to help manage growth in West Kelowna and to encourage appropriate housing for the needs of our community,” he said.
Milsom did not seek re-election in 2014, and has been focusing on his financial planning business since then, as well as staying involved in the community.
“I was chair of West Kelowna’s economic development committee for two years . . . I’ve also been a director of the Westside Board of Trade, and I’ve been very involved in our local Rotary,” said Milsom. “I’ve been pretty busy with community activities and staying very much involved.”
Doug Findlater has held the mayor’s position in West Kelowna since 2008.
He has not stated whether he plans to run again this year.
The upcoming civic election in West Kelowna and across the province will be held Oct. 20.
