Advice for Vees, airport

-

Dear editor: These two subjects concern a lot of South Okanagan people.

The Vees, even though they have had a tough year because of injuries, are talented, gifted and scrappy – when necessary.

During the last league game against Coquitlam, they played the "passing game." They did not burn a lot of calories, yet won 7 to 1.

When a team – any team – has 51 shots on goal, yet wins by a two- or three-goal margin, I say and so do many other season ticket holders, Fred, take a look at the films.

Consider those 51 shots on goal by one player from a bad angle. How often was there a man open in the slot with the four corners and occasionally the five-hole open?

Regarding the airport expansion. It’s sad to hear Air Canada is using older Dash 8 model aircraft.

I suggest the Penticton Indian Band immediately award the airport authority an extra 500 metres of land to extend and reinforce the runway.

WestJet is introducing Boeing 878 Dreamliner aircraft to their equipment inventory: The Dreamliner will fly from Penticton over the North Pole to Europe; returning will be a large numbers of European tourists and other international travelers.

Even today WestJet Boeing 737s are flying from St. John's, Nfld., to Dublin, Ireland in five hours.

Summer firefighting is becoming a major issue: Heavily loaded Armed Forces C-130 Hercules aircraft arrivals will need longer runways; for present emergencies (the Herc) can get in and out of Penticton, for regular operations where the military must support the locals, the runway extension, taxi ramps and parking areas must be upgraded.

The Kelowna option is OK, unfortunately, Kelowna is becoming a traveler's nightmare; even day trips to Kelowna can be a tenuous situation; Kelowna now has some of the Lower Mainland transportation problems.

The tourists will come to the Okanagan. Unfortunately, if Penticton does not keep up with future growth, those tourists will go elsewhere Ernie Slump Penticton to issues be undertaken, but why must society continually be held up for ransom by a usual vocal minority? Paul Crossley Penticton
