OHA falls to POE in Female Prep final at CSSHL Championsh­ips

Pursuit of Excellence won an allOkanaga­n matchup in the Female Prep Division championsh­ip game at the BDO Canadian School Sports Hockey League Championsh­ips on Thursday at the South Okanagan Events Centre.

Stephanie Markowski scored twice and added two assists and Coldstream freshman sensation Anne Cherkowski had a goal and three helpers as Kelowna-based POE beat Penticton-based Okanagan Hockey Academy 6-3.

Penticton’s Kailee Skinner had one of the OHA goals.

FEMALE VARSITY: Sarah Paul of Kelowna scored the decisive goal with 5:45 left in the second period as OHA defeated Delta Hockey Academy 1-0 in the championsh­ip game Wednesday.

Selma Luggin posted her third straight shutout of the playoffs for host OHA.

MIDGET VARSITY: Corbin Hanson and Noah Leibl each scored twice as Shawnigan Lake defeated POE in the final 5-1 on Tuesday to win their third playoff title in four years.

BANTAM VARSITY: Dylan Fader and Trevor Wong each had a goal and two helpers as St. George’s School (Vancouver) blitzed Delta Hockey Academy 8-1 in the final on Monday to cap off a perfect season.

St. George’s went 30-0 in the regular season and did not lose in the playoffs.

The 10-day, 68-team (seven divisions) competitio­n wraps up on Sunday at the OHS Training Centre rink at the SOEC with three more finals — the Bantam Prep Championsh­ip Game (Top Bantam Division), 8:15 a.m.; Elite 15 Championsh­ip Game (15year-old division), 11 a.m., and Midget Prep Championsh­ip Game (Top Midget Division), 1:45 p.m.

The championsh­ips are being held in Penticton for a fourth consecutiv­e year.
