Members of Penticton's Greek community recognized Greece’s Independence Day on Sunday by placing a wreath at the cenotaph at Veteran’s Park and singing the Greek national anthem. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau attended a Greek festival in Ottawa in recognition of the special day. Liberal Governments individual approval has taken several years and over a billion dollars to accomplish. The marine response regime set in place will be able to clean any diluted bitumen spill just as effectively as any crude oil spill. The Lower Mainland now sees the cost of gasoline rising at alarming rates as U.S. imported production is curtailed. The dissidents would have us believe it is the best for everyone by stalling the pipeline as long as possible until it is cancelled. Yet that option means that all those who wish to travel, move products to market, or build a home will pay more and more in B.C. while the rest of the world continues to industrialize, drive and fly with lower cost fuels.

Both stations have reporters all over the world and can immediately fly someone in to cover a story that might be of interest to Canadians. But, even here we only get the news that a reporter wants to send out. Good investigative journalists are few and far between, frequently hampered by how much money is available from their parent company for research.
There is a lot of news now available from the internet. But you have to decide whether it is fake or not. Even photos can be “shopped,” which may not give an accurate picture of a news item.
However, local papers should be considerate of what is important for its readers. I hesitate to say that five out of six pages in the Herald are just unadulterated slop. However, I will continue to subscribe, hopefully to see a change for the better.
