School kids to get peek at Medieval Faire horses

Kids can get a free tour of the joust horses’ barn prior to the opening of the Osoyoos Medieval Faire this weekend.

The Desert Park Exhibition Society is offering schoolchil­dren a peek at 10 a.m. May 18 at the Desert Park Race Track prior to the annual faire which, takes place Saturday and Sunday, starting at 11 a.m.

“We wanted to introduce this special form of entertainm­ent to children so they have a more enjoyable experience when they come to the Osoyoos Medieval Faire,” said organizer Bobbie Fischer.

The fair returns this year with an expanded vendor village and more entertainm­ent added over the weekend with food, artisans, a stilt-walking juggler, fire breathers, sword fighting and a variety of buskers.

New this year are the Kelowna Axe Monkeys, offering targeted axe throwing. Kids can also take in Jump’n Jax inflatable­s, horse and pony rides and stilt-walking clinics.

Under the tent is a stage for dancers and pub with craft beers from Cannery Brewing and wines by Adega on 49th.

Live music will come from Rob ’n’ Walker and Route 33.

A separately ticketed events for adults only takes place 6-9 p.m. Friday at the Medieval Madness pub in the Great Hall at 3800 Golf Course Dr., with craft beers and music to dance to by Jeremy Messenger.

Topping off the evening’s entertainm­ent is Cosmic Co-Motion, a circus-inspired group from Kelowna with a fire dance finale.

Tickets for each day and the Friday evening party will be $25 at the gate and $20 online at www.osoyoosfai­re.com.
