Trudeau talked a good game

-

Dear editor: Not too many years ago, I remember a bright-eyed young man coming down the line who, in my mind, had the right answers to a lot of problems that we were heading into.

He talked about carbon emissions from the burning of fossil fuels; keeping the north coast safe from oil tanker spills; the endangered pod of orcas on our coast; alternative sources of electrical power – solar, wind and geothermal; and processing our natural resources, adding value to them before shipment.

I was very pleased at his words and what he was trying to do.

For some reason, we don’t hear much of that from Mr. Trudeau any more. All we hear from him now is all the good paying jobs from building the Kinder Morgan pipeline.

We’re not seeing many wind turbines or solar farms, and no word on geothermal. It makes a person wonder if the premier next door with all the dirty oil for sale or the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers somehow got to the prime minster.

My grandchildren and great grandchildren are just about old enough to ask questions about why, when we had the chance to stop global warming before it was too late, we did not do more.

I do not have any answers to those difficult questions.

My hope is, Mr. Trudeau, that you will have the answers.

Very disappointed, Mr. Trudeau, after you started out so well. Very disappointed. Ted Smith Naramata
