Boil-water alert still in place

-

A boil-water notice remains in effect for the Sun Valley Water System, after a clean-out attempt failed.

The system, which provides irrigation and domestic water to 28 connections in the southeast area of Okanagan Falls, was flushed and chlorinated June 14, but test results last week still showed elevated levels of total coliform bacteria and turbidity, according to a press release from the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen.

Users are being encouraged to check wells and other water fixtures to ensure there are no cross connections that may be allowing non-potable water into the system, which was transferred to the RDOS in 2017.

Disaster relief drying up soon

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen is reminding property owners affected by spring flooding that disaster financial assistance may be available from the B.C. government.

Funding covers uninsurable losses as a result of flooding April 26 to May 24, and is available in all electoral areas, municipalities and First Nations within the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen.

Meanwhile evacuation orders remain in place in the Sportsmens Bowl, Green Mountain Road, Twin Lakes and Riverside Estates areas, affecting a total of about 10 homes.
