Pospisil means tennis

These townhouses are unapologetically sumptuous and pricey. They are the 12 units in the Brixx complex to be built at the corner of Richter Street and Cawston Avenue in downtown Kelowna.

“Even though real estate sales overall are slowing, we are finding there’s a big market for luxury downsizers,” said Don Warkentin, owner of Fortune Marketing, the firm selling Brixx for Vancouver-based developer Majormaki & McLean.

“These are high-end townhomes with four levels of living space priced $799,900 to $899,900.”

The average selling price of a townhouse in Kelowna right now is around $518,000.

Warkentin characterizes luxury downsizers as those baby boomer couples who have raised their kids in a 4,000-square-foot home in the Mission and are now ready to move downtown to a smaller place.

But not as small as a condominium and they don’t want to give up any home comforts.

So, an 1,800-square-foot, designer townhouse with double-car garage close to all downtown amenities fits the bill.

Fortune just started selling Brixx and already two of the townhouses have been snapped up.

The on-site presentation centre is now open at 1308 Richter St. everyday, except Sundays, from noon to 4 p.m.

Construction is expected to start this fall for December 2019 completion.

Fortune is also marketing St. Paul, the 54-condo building that will go up at the corner of St. Paul Street and Clement Avenue.

In five weeks, it’s 70 per cent sold, mostly to a different crowd of young professionals who want a downtown lifestyle.

If Milos Pospisil’s last name looks or sounds familiar it’s because he’s the father of Vasek Pospisil, a professional tennis player who’s a former Wimbledon doubles champion.

Milos coached his son in the past and is now the coach at the new tennis courts in Commonage Park at Predator Ridge Golf Resort near Vernon.

Fees range from $25 an hour for a group lesson to $75 an hour for a one-on-one for residents and guests at Predator and $40 and $90, respectively, for the public.

The four tennis courts are part of the new Commonage neighbourhood at Predator, which also includes four pickleball courts, children’s playground, lavender meadow and outdoor yoga platform.

Showhomes and resort homes are already built at Commonage and open for daily viewing.

Record nominations

An astonishing 323 nominations across 11 categories adds up to a record number for the Kelowna Business Excellence Awards.

In fact, the number of nominations is twice as much as received for the 2017 awards.

“This is a stellar result,” said Tom Dyas, past-president of the
