Teenagers make waves again at Ultra Swim

Edmonton teen takes Skaha Lake title by 7 minutes

Edmonton’s Casey Reiss won the 11.8 km Skaha Lake Ultra Swim in a time of 2 hours, 26 minutes and 55 seconds.

Reiss broke the men’s 14-19 age group record of 2:45:52 set in 1987 by Dean Lindal.

The race, part of the Peach Festival slate of events for the second straight year, went from Skaha Beach in Penticton to Christie Beach in Okanagan Falls.

Chantel Jeffrey of Salmon Arm, who won last year’s race, finished runner-up in a time of 2:33:54 — breaking the women’s 14-19 age group record of 2:35:03 that she set last year.

Haley Berrisford of Summerland, who came second to Jeffrey last year, placed third overall in 2:46:59.

Sean Orb (men’s 40-49) placed fourth in 2:56:31 and Chris Hall (men’s 50-59) rounded out the top five in 2:57:13.

Scott Lautman finished sixth in 3:06:03 and also set a new men’s 60-69 age group record.

Eighty of the 82 who started the race were able to finish.

45th, Naomi Garrish, Oliver, 4:05:28

49th, Martine Korban, OK Falls, 4:12:0 57th, Claire Keys, 4:25:10 58th, Tom Evans, 4:25:38 65th, Myles Gaulin, Kaleden, 4:41:04 67th, Peter Humeny, 4:46:03 70th, Amanda Kontkanen, 4:54:28 74th, Elaine Davidson, Naramata, 5:23:27 79th, Andrea Gardner, 6:40:40 It was the 21st year the Ultra Swim has been held in Penticton.

The race started in 1985 and was resurrecte­d last year after a 13-year absence.
