Kitties and wine, the purrfect duo
Saxon Estate Winery in Summerland is giving cats and kittens in need of a forever home a helping hand.
The winery, located at 9819 Lumsden Ave., is hosting a fundraising event, Kitties and Wine, today from 3 to 8 p.m.
Popular vocalist Windy Rodocker will perform beginning at 5:30 p.m.
“Everyone who signs up today to adopt a cat or kitten from Critteraid will receive a free bottle of Saxon wine,” said Paul Graydon who owns the winery with wife Jayne.
Seven kittens and two young adult males will be at the winery today however, there are at least another 30 cats and kittens in need of a home, said Critteraid’s animal care director, Jess Byer.
Critteraid, which began over two decades ago as a local cat sanctuary, has expanded to also provide shelter for Okanagan dogs and other animals at its farm in Summerland.

“Critteraid is our sponsored charity,” said Paul, who serves on the board and volunteers at the farm two days a week.
The Graydons donate all the winery’s tasting fees to Critteraid.
This summer, the Graydons are donating $2 for every bottle of English Rose wine sold in their shop.
For anyone interested in adopting a cat, but can’t make Kitties and Wine, drop by PetSmart, 102 Warren Ave. E. in Penticton, on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
A larger event featuring 30 cats and kittens will be held at PetSmart on Sept. 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sept. 16 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
