Clean house in West Kelowna

-

Dear Editor: West Kelowna Council is making the CTV National News due its incompetence with its Boucherie Road Wine Trail.

Yes, there was Rosalind Neis with her measuring tape showing all watching just how bad it was. Personally, I like Rosalind, and she’s the only person currently on council worth voting for in my opinion. Although this maneuver was nothing more than political grandstanding at this time.

How and why this could even occur is beyond my comprehension. Do the mayor, councilors and engineers not step-out to oversee any of the prized projects they have authorized and are involved in?

Surely to God they must, but it doesn’t appear that way. So how could this project get so far ahead of itself that the roadway is now considered too “narrow” and how and why would telephone poles be left in the middle of the sidewalks?

How, how, how if we had a competent council?

It was first reported in the Capital News on Aug. 17 by Edward White after he saw the curbing being poured on Boucherie in early August. He measured the road width only to be 21 feet, 7 inches (6.6m) wide. Mr. White states he is an experienced driver and pulls a 40-foot fifth wheel RV around North America.

He stated in his article that two units like his passing in opposite directions would likely have only inches between their mirrors. What if one of these vehicles was a semi or large truck, and what if your kids were walking along the road dodging those telephone posts?

Mayor Doug Findlater is proud of his 100 per cent attendance at council meetings. Doing what, for the citizens of West Kelowna? Pushing for a new City Hall in downtown Westbank!

I have heard and read more information from the city manager Jim Zaffino, and quite possibly it has been more accurate as well.

These people on council want to be reelected. Boy-oh-boy, do we need to give our heads a shake if we go out and do that.

Ask yourself, what have they done, or what are they doing for “all” residents of our community before you place your “X” beside their name.
