Penticton Speedway contributions net large donation for 13 organizations

-

The Penticton Speedway Foundation donated $6,500 to 13 community organizations, earlier this week.

Money was raised by generous spectators and participants at the Penticton Speedway this past summer through 50-50 draws and raffles, plus cash donations.

Breakfast programs supported were Parkway School, Carmi School, Columbia School, West Bench School, Queens Park School, Giant’s Head School, Princess Margaret, KVR Middle School, Skaha Lake Middle School, Ecole Entre Lacs and the Connect-Ed program.

Additionally, donations were made to the Okanagan Hockey Community Foundation and the Penticton air cadets.

Johnny Aantjes of the Speedway reminds the public that many schools are in need of volunteers in the morning to help with food preparation and serving. Food and monetary donations are also accepted.

The breakfast programs are in need of items such as small plates, utensils, cups, toasters, waffle makers, electric griddles, blenders and muffin tins.

The schools are also seeking any local orchardists who have extra fruit for donation. Many of the volunteers make applesauce and muffins that are frozen over the winter months.

More information on the school breakfast programs is available at pentictonspeedway.com.

In addition to the recent donation, the foundation made an additional contribution of $8,680 last May to School District 67’s breakfast programs, SOWINS, Critteraid and AlleyCats Alliance. Last month, $1,017 was donated to the United Way of the Central and South Okanagan-Similkameen, and earlier this month $2,017 was donated to Canadian Tire’s JumpStart program.

The Penticton Speedway will conclude its 2018 season with a special Halloween Day of Destruction this Sunday, beginning at 2 p.m.
