Home brewers are eager to spread cheer

-

The craft beer movement is growing at an unprecedented rate in Penticton, the South Okanagan, throughout B.C. and beyond.

As enjoyment of craft beer increases, and as the number of craft beers and breweries continues to increase, we are also seeing an increase in the number of home brewers taking a turn crafting their own beers.

This Saturday, a number of local home brewers will be showcasing their best works in the 3rd annual Campaign for Real Ale — South Okanagan competition from 1-4 p.m. at Tin Whistle Brewing.

“More than 10 home brewers are making their very best beers for guests to try. Guests at the event will have the opportunity to try these home brewed beers, cast their votes for their favourites, and give some feedback to the home brewers,” said CAMRA SO president Kim Lawton.

“The top three home brewers will get bragging rights and prizes sponsored by Trellis and Vine Crafthouse and the BC Ale Trail.”

In addition, there will be a panel of brewery judges who will award the Judges’ Choice Award. The winner will have the opportunity to brew a commercial batch of their winning beer with Tin Whistle Brewing.

Guests will also get to watch Tin Whistle’s professional brewmaster put together an experimental batch during the event.

There is no charge to attend and no charge to try the beer, although guests must be legal drinking age and they must pre-register for a ticket on EventBrite.

CAMRA SO will be collecting donations onsite to help cover event costs. The Nest and Nectar will have its poutine bar at the event. Guests are asked to pre-purchase their food ticket on EventBrite when they register for their event tickets.

CAMRA SO memberships will also be available for purchase during the event. The annual membership fee is $25 per person or $40 per couple. Membership benefits include discounts and special offers at craft-beer friendly establishments throughout the South Okanagan and the province.
