Three-car crash in Penticton

Stolen truck used in attempted heist

-

Traffic heading to Friday night’s Penticton Vees’ game at the South Okanagan Events Centre and Cascades Casino Penticton were backed up due to a three-car pile up on the corner of Westminster Ave. W. and Power Street. The accident occurred shortly before 6:30 p.m. Emergency services were on site. No serious injuries were reported.

Thieves attempted to use a stolen pickup truck to ram a Peachland credit union and steal the drive-thru bank machine, but they failed.

Police are now looking for criminals.

RCMP were called Friday morning to the Vantage One credit union after an employee had been alerted by an alarm and discovered heavy damage to the exterior of the building.

Police believe a white Ford F-350 pickup was used more than once to attempt to knock down a wall containing the machine. The pickup was abandoned at the scene.

The suspects reportedly fled in a silver Dodge Ram extended cab pickup, also recovered later by police.

“A preliminary assessment conducted by staff on site suggests that despite the thousands of dollars in damage caused, nothing appears to be taken from inside the bank,” said RCMP spokesman Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey. ”Forensic investigators were called upon to examine the scene for physical evidence.”

The F-350 had been stolen overnight in the Peachland area. The Dodge is also believed to be stolen.

Police are looking for information. Call the West Kelowna detachment at 250-768-2880. the
