2 injured after cars hit black ice

Two cars hit the same patch of black ice in Vernon Friday morning, causing injuries.

The accidents occurred just before 8 a.m. on Commanage Road near Baily Road in Vernon.

Police said a vehicle travelling north on Commanage hit a patch of black ice and went into the ditch. A good Samaritan stopped to help.

Minutes later, another northbound vehicle hit the ice and also went into the ditch, striking the Samaritan and the first driver.

“Both the driver and good Samaritan were out of their vehicles at the time when the second vehicle hit black ice, causing it to strike both, who were standing roadside,” said RCMP Const. Kelly Brett. “The second vehicle clipped the Samaritan, causing only minor injury, (but) struck the driver of the first vehicle, sending them to hospital via air ambulance with serious but non-lifethreatening injuries.”

Road conditions were blamed and no charges are being considered.
