Steam stings Chiefs again in Kelowna
The Summerland Steam did again to the Kelowna Chiefs.
Mitchell Gove scored twice as the Steam stunned the Chiefs 4-3 Friday at the Rutland Arena, handing Kelowna its second regulation loss in 36 games this season.
The Steam ended the Chiefs unbeaten streak with a 7-2 victory in early-December – also in Kelowna’s building.
Cory Loring and Cody Swan also scored for the Steam (20-13-2-2), who led 2-0 and 3-1 at the period breaks.
Myles Mattila, Kaden Stewart and Tyler Love scored for the Chiefs (312-1-2), who could have clinched the Okanagan Division pennant with a win.
Kelowna – which still hasn’t lost a road game this season — had a 39-25 edge in shots on goal, with Eric Scherger making 36 saves for the Steam.
To prove it was no fluke, the Steam walked into the Revelstoke Forum and got two more goals from Gove to beat the Doug Birks Divisionleading Grizzlies 4-3 on Saturday.
Everett Scherger scored the winner on a power play with 2:17 to play – just nine seconds after Josh Irvine had tied the game for the vaunted Grizzlies (29-5-0).
Ty Banser also scored for the Steam and Eric Scherger was terrific again with 50 saves.
Ryan Bedard and Matt Cadden had the other Revelstoke goals.
A brawl broke out as the game ended with six fighting majors, nine game misconducts and a 10-minute misconduct assessed.
Coyotes 4 Posse 0: Brock Marple scored twice and Bailey Monteith made 23 saves for the shutout as Osoyoos defeated Princeton Friday at the Sun Bowl Arena.
Tyler Badger and Wyatt Wong also scored as the Coyotes (13-20-2-1) halted a nine-game losing skid.
Jaysen MacLean made 47 saves for the Posse (11-23-1-2), who trailed 1-0 and 3-0 at the period breaks.
The Coyotes also hosted the North Okanagan Knights Sunday night. it
