Knights enter playoff picture with 5-1 win over Osoyoos

The North Okanagan Knights are pushing hard for a playoff spot.

Alec McLeod scored once and added two assists and the resurgent Knights scored four power-play goals to beat the Osoyoos Coyotes 5-1 for their third win in four games in KIJHL action Sunday at the Oliver Arena.

Jett Saharchuk, Kevin Thomas Walters, Ethan Matchim and Ty Tippett also scored as the Knights (13-23-0) leapfrogge­d the Princeton Posse (11-23-1-2) for the fourth and final playoff position in the Okanagan Division.

The Knights are also just three points behind the struggling third-place Coyotes (13-21-2-1), who have lost 10 of their last 11.

Brock Marple scored in the third period for Osoyoos, which trailed 1-0 and 2-0 at the period breaks.

Caedon Bellman made 29 stops for North Okanagan and Daniel Paul did likewise for Osoyoos.

Osoyoos plays just once this week, taking on the Kamloops Storm on Saturday at 7:35 p.m. at the Sun Bowl Arena.

The Summerland Steam visit Kamloops on Friday and host North Okanagan on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

North Okanagan visits Princeton in a huge game on Friday.

The Kelowna Chiefs (31-2-1-2) need just two more wins to clinch the Okanagan Division pennant. Kelowna also leads the Kimberley Dynamiters by three points for the KIJHL overall points title.

Kelowna visits Princeton on Saturday.
