Ladies’ Bonspiel up next at Summerland Curling Club

The Summerland Curling Club will host its annual Ladies’ Bonspiel this Saturday and Sunday.

There are currently 13 teams registered from Penticton, Kelowna and Merritt. The club is hoping to have 16 teams for the event.

Clancy’s Snipers registered 20 points to extend their lead to 28 points after Week 17 action in the Penticton and District Dart Associatio­n standings.

The Snipers now have 313 points while Roll N Stones Fun Centre Alley Brats and OK Falls Legion Hand Grenades each had 17 points to remain tied for second at 285.

Roll N Stones Fun Centre Wreckers tied with the Snipers for the most points for the week with 20 and stayed fourth at 281 while Elks No. 1 team slumped to seven points to round out the top five in the 16-team league at 243.

Calvin Ek leads the way with three perfect 180 scores while Jason Gerlat, Mike Meaney and Joe Brooks each have two.

MELBOURNE, Australia — Milos Raonic of Thornhill, Ont., joined three other Canadians in the second round of the Australian Open with a 6-4, 7-6 (5), 6-4 win over Australia’s Nick Kyrgios.

Raonic is Canada’s top-ranked singles player at No. 17. It was the seventh meeting between the pair and the first since 2016, and Raonic has now taken a 4-3 advantage.

Raonic next plays former champion Stan Wawrinka, who advanced when his opponent Ernests Gulbis retired in the second set of their match with a back injury.

Canadian teen Bianca Andreescu scored a lengthy, three-set victory over American wild card Whitney Osuigwe, while Denis Shapovalov of Richmond Hill, Ont., and Eugenie Bouchard of Westmount, Que., both advanced in straight sets.
