Labour Day picnic changes locations

-

A popular local Labour Day event will be held in a new location.

The North Okanagan Labour Council’s sixth annual open-tothe-public Labour Day picnic on Monday will be held in the fields at the Hollywood Road Education Centre this year — after several years in Mission Creek Regional Park.

The free event goes from noon to 3 p.m.

Along with a barbecue, music, information booths and prize giveaways, the city’s Park and Play program will join the festivities to offer activities for children.

The picnics in recent years have attracted up to 1,000 people.

Labour Day gives communities the opportunity to acknowledge the achievements of union and non-union workers across Canada, said NOLC president Ian Gordon.

“Things like Medicare, minimum wage and parental leave were won thanks to working people across Canada. This is why every year on Labour Day, Canada’s unions celebrate working people as we all continue our work to improve the lives of all Canadians.”

“The $15 minimum wage is changing the lives of working families across the country and our pharmacare campaign hopes to do the same,” said Gordon in a news release

The NOLC represents more than 40 unions from Peachland to Enderby.
