Kelowna teams sweep 7-on-7 football tourney

Kelowna’s Okanagan Football Academy swept the podium at the 7 on 7 Football Western National Championsh­ips in Calgary, July 2-4.

The academy sent four teams to Western Nationals — an under-12 team, as well as U13, U14 and U15 teams.

The U13, U14 and U15 teams all competed in the same U15 division sweeping the podium with the U15s winning it all, the U14s taking second and the U13s third.

The academy’s U12 team was top in the U12 devision.

Academy players also earned individual awards with Raine Fenske (U12) and Sebastian Gaspar (U14 team) taking most valuable player honours.

“We got the results we came for, now we bring this attitude and level of play back to the academy,” said coach Jamie Boreham.

Boreham is regional director of the Okanagan Football Academy and Okanagan Sun head coach.

“Football is a journey. The Okanagan Football Academy provides great education, great training and great coaching,” he said.

The 7 on 7 Associatio­n of Canada is a nationwide, non-contact football league. 7 on 7 football focuses on skill developmen­t in a safe, tackle-free environmen­t. The academy teams were:

U12: Raine Fenske, Mason Gagne, Brandon Gaspar, Easton Giesbrecht, Jack Gordon, Ryan Rebagliati, Easton Sandor, Abel Thompson.

U13: Carter Cook, Kane Hutchings, Zach Mueller, Jake Nelson,

Keir Phillips, Parker Retzlaff, Lukas Segler.

U14: Matt Chapman, Liam Chen, Ashton Davidson, Steven Eberle, Maddux Elson, Liam Gagne, Sebastian Gaspar, Quinn Kayfish, Owen Poynter, Eliott Vander Horst, Braylon Wilson.

U15: Mekhi Emerenini, Gavin Kamoschins­ki, Griffin Lea, Max Reiter, Jorel Sahay, Parker Scott, Reid Thompson, Ty Walker.

Coaches: Jamie Boreham, Bobby Davis, Eli Haynes, Aldrich Berrios Mercado, and Travis Miller.
