SPALL, Alberta Elizabeth “Beth”

-

Alberta Elizabeth (Beth) Spall left the earth on April 4th, 2022. Born in Kelowna on February 6th, 1935, the youngest child of James and Johanna (ne Knippel) Spall, she was the last of her generation, being predeceased by Connie, Clarice (Bubs), Dorcas (Dot), Robert, Clara, Katherine (Kay) and Eric. Obtaining her BA English (UBC) 1957, she moved to Ottawa with her husband Ed Weick and son James (Tad), and soon came along Frances and then Ted (Teddy). Starting with a teaching career (Algonquin College) and becoming well connected and very active in the woman’s movement, she earned her M.Ed. (Ottawa), and looked west to the setting sun. Called back by her family and that Okanagan sun in 1980, she worked at Okanagan College (Penticton), advising post-secondary students on career and personal choices, and built a strong community around her in the United Church and other socially minded groups. After 25+ years at the college, she retired and started a 3rd career in Fine Art. Sadly and reluctantly, she gave up the Okanagan (as a place, but not in spirit) and moved to Victoria in 2017 at the behest of her two youngest. She will be sorely missed by her children, their partners (Alison and Lynn), and her grandchildren and their partners (Joy, Allison (Caleb), Katree (Nova), Aaron and Ben) and all the nieces and nephews of the wider Spall clan.
