Please stay on council Amelia

-

Dear Editor:

Re: Boultbee mulling run at higher office (Herald, Feb. 1).

Coun. Amelia Boultbee, you were elected on the premise that you would protect the rights, concerns and expectations of the Penticton’s 35,000 residents; you have remained true and pro-active to that premise.

Please Coun. Boultbee do not leave at this time as your dedication, common sense, knowledge of the major issues you have brought to Council still have to be resolved despite some of the patronizing and self-serving (sycophants)“inveterate naysayers” trying to sabotage your resolve in the following:

-- Core review of municipal operations including redundant positions through “empire building” by City staff;

-- Forensic audit and referendum on the bike lanes fiasco; nobody knows the real costs of the bike lanes from its inception to its conclusion;

-- Misappropriation of funds from other budgets to pay for the bike lanes. Calling the electrical dividend rather than a tax, what an inveigled tactic and a blatant misrepresentation by the naysayers.

It appears from the above that Coun. Boultbee’s work/issues have been further impeded by some of the “naysayers”:

-- Denying Boultbee her logical position as deputy mayor (she obtained the most votes of all councillors in the 2022 election);

-- Denying her a position on the Regional District Okanagan Similkameen

Could this imply a retaliation, a breach of ethics or simply an envious posture by “the naysayers” of the common sense, knowledge of issues and the esteem and support of the voters enjoyed by Coun. Boultbee?

Coun. Boultbee, I am certain that you would be elected mayor at the next election, should you stay on council.

Major Claude Filiatrault

Penticton
