At least 10 student labourers needed at the Grist Mill
Thanks to generous grants from both Service Canada and the Canadian Museum’s Association, the Grist Mill will be hiring at least 10 students for what looks to be an exceptionally busy 2024 summer season.
“These sorts of funding opportunities are always important to us, as they allow us to provide quality entry-level jobs,” said general manager of the site Chris Mathieson.
“After multiple challenging seasons due to forest fires, heat domes and the pandemic, we expect to have an exceptionally busy season, and these positions will make a huge difference as we work to expand our gardens, events and activity options on site. We were already excited about the upcoming season, but this puts us over the top.”
Between the two funding programs, student positions available include costumed site interpreters, event coordinators, garden/landscaping assistants, historical research assistants, kitchen help, and more. To qualify for these fulltime positions, students must be aged 15 to 30 with plans to return to school in the fall.
Support for these positions comes from Service Canada’s Canada Summer Jobs’ program, as well as the Canadian Museums Association and Heritage Canada’s Young Canada Works program.
“We’d especially like to thank our Member of Parliament, Dan Albas, for his long-standing work in ensuring that heritage and tourism are funding priorities for both these Federal grant programs,” said Mathieson.
