And it mattered

Prairie Fire - - PATRICK FRIESEN -

patrick o’connell, in another city, off

his meds, senged by sun, out of luck,

his brain awash with things, fingers raw

from his guitar, him attired for death,

white shirt and dark trousers, shoeless

in the snow, o’connell reciting like it

mattered, keeping warm in newspaper

clothes, well, not warm, keeping the cold

out, hopeful the sea would open once

more for him, and it mattered.
