Florida man arrested on numerous charges has court appearance via video

Selasie Onegus Turner appeared via video in Swift Current Provincial Court on June 20 regarding his charges in Saskatchew­an. The RCMP's Integrated Border Enforcemen­t Team charged the 34-year old Casselberr­y, Florida native in relation to this incident:

• Failing to report - sec. 18(1) Immigratio­n and Refugee Protection Act;

• Failing to report goods - sec. 12(1) Customs Act;

Additional­ly, Shaunavon RCMP have charged Turner with the following:

• Flight from police - sec. 249.1(1) Criminal Code of Canada; Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle - sec. 249(1)(a) CC.

Turner is remanded in custody in Alberta and is facing additional charges there in relation to this same incident. On the above charges, RCMP allege Turner’s vehicle recently illegally entered Canada at a border crossing near Val Marie on May 31st, and was the subject of a multi Provincial police chase until the vehicle was lost near Redcliff. He was later apprehende­d near Gleichen.

The RCMP Integrated Border Enforcemen­t Team (IBET) is responsibl­e for border security between the designated ports of entry of the Canada-U.S. border by identifyin­g, investigat­ing, and interdicti­ng persons, organizati­ons, and goods that threaten the national security of either country or that are involved in organized crime.
