Beginning of construction of Badlands Scenic Viewpoint Road in Grasslands National Park
As part of its federal infrastructure investment program, Grasslands National Park is pleased to announce the beginning of construction on the long-planned Badlands Scenic Viewpoint Road in the East Block of the park.
As part of this exciting project, Parks Canada is constructing a scenic road with viewpoint parking areas along the eastern edge of the East Block of Grasslands National Park.
This project will provide basic access to key locations in the East Block of the park and is intended to meet commitments outlined in the 2010 Park
Management Plan to improve road access, develop interpretive viewing and day-use areas, and to increase infrastructure to enhance visitor experience in this area of the park.
The design and placement of the road will help discourage informal vehicle trail use and unauthorized off-road vehicle use and it was chosen to have the least impact on critical habitat.
Construction is planned to begin in August with an expected completion date for the Fall of 2018.
While Parks Canada makes every effort to minimize disruptions caused by infrastructure projects occurring in our national parks, we encourage visitors to plan ahead and to consult our public website or to contact the park directly to stay apprised of construction activity happening at Grasslands National Park.
As Canada’s largest tourism provider, Parks Canada is committed to providing visitors with exceptional and meaningful experiences at our places.
With quality trails, roads, and facilities, we are ensuring the safety of our visitors, while encouraging people to stay away from sensitive ecological areas since these investments will provide them with the necessities to explore and adventure outside.
