Upcoming annual Burstall fall fair to raise money for local facilities
If you are looking to escape the humdrum drone of summer holidays and are looking for something new and fun to do with the family, check out the Burstall and District Fall Fair coming this September 8-9.
Coming into the fair’s 37th year, the community of Burstall has certainly grown some Saskatchewan roots.
With a population of less than 500 people, the annual event brings forward some fantastic activities, music and cuisine to the table: German Cuisine, Arts and Crafts Gallery, Live Music, Face Painting, Bouncy Castle, Fish Pond, Wagon Rides, Fire Truck Rides, Train/barrel Rides, Vendors, Draws and so much more. The event draws around 400 people to over the course of the weekend and requires the help of thirty volunteers to pull it off.
“We expect between 300-500 people over the weekend. We start off with a parade on the 8th at 11 o’clock. That’s getting bigger and better as people get used to it and we get more and more entries every year. It’s getting to the point now where we actually have people lined up on the street in chairs so that is pretty cool for Burstall,” explained Colleen Bodnarchuk, Chairperson of the Burstall & District Fall Fair Committee.
“At the Community Hall we have our German food; perogies, sausage, cabbage rolls - that kind of food. On Saturday, there is a silent auction.”
The Featured Event is Personal Wood Carvings by Marina Cole. Cole is taking pre-orders on personal commissions and will carve them for your entertainment.
Cole will be on-sight on Saturday and will not disappoint with her talented wood carving.
The Burstall & District Fall Fair is a popular fundraiser that allows the community to maintain their facilities and amenities throughout the year.
“I got our theme from the Zac Brown Band song, ‘Roots’. So our theme is “Our Roots Keep Us Grounded,” said Bodnarchuk. “It’s a major fundraiser for our town. Most of it goes to the swimming pool because that is one of the facilities we are trying to keep alive. It needs money. The rest is split between our other facilities in town.”
Admission to the event is extremely reasonable and family-friendly.
